Saltstraumen

One of the unique features of Norway are the maelstroms.   The Saltstraumen maelstrom is formed when a change of tides causes one fjord to empty into another, creating what amounts to a waterfall at sea.  Whirlpools spontaneously form, coalesce, hiss, and then disappear.  Check out the videos below to experience this bizarre phenomenon.
